Carrying a DJI drone on Indian travel involves two challenges: protecting a fragile, expensive piece of electronics during transit, and complying with Indian airline lithium-polymer battery rules that are enforced at security screening.
The drone itself weighs 200–900g depending on the model. The accessory kit - spare batteries, controller, ND filters, charging hub, cables - easily doubles that weight. How this kit gets packed determines whether you clear security without delays, whether the gimbal survives an auto ride, and whether you can deploy the drone under 60 seconds at a location.

Indian airline rules for drones and lithium batteries
Lithium-polymer batteries must travel in cabin baggage. Indian DGCA regulations prohibit lithium batteries in checked luggage on all airlines (IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, Akasa, Vistara). All drone batteries, controller batteries, and charging hubs must be in your carry-on.
Battery capacity limits. Individual batteries under 100 Wh do not require airline approval. DJI Mini 4 Pro batteries (7.38V, 2590 mAh = ~19 Wh), Air 3 batteries (11.55V, 4241 mAh = ~49 Wh), and Mavic 3 batteries (15.4V, 5000 mAh = ~77 Wh) all fall under 100 Wh. No special permission needed.
Spare batteries must be individually protected. Cover terminals with tape or keep each battery in its own case or a padded compartment. Loose batteries that short-circuit in a bag are a fire hazard. The Pro Kit Tech Organiser (₹899) has sectioned compartments that keep each battery isolated.

For DJI Air/Mavic series: Pango V2.0 - ₹6,299
Larger DJI drones need the Pango V2.0's adjustable padded dividers. The camera compartment reconfigures to hold a DJI Air 3 or Mavic 3 with controller, 3 batteries, charging hub, ND filter set, and spare propellers. The 15.6-inch laptop compartment handles field editing. Rain cover included for outdoor launches.

Modular option: HOBO25 + Camera Cube - ₹6,398
The HOBO25 V3.0 (₹3,999) with a Pro Camera Cube V2.0 (₹2,399) inside. The cube holds the drone with padded dividers. On non-flying days, remove the cube and the HOBO25 is a regular backpack. Best for travellers who fly drones occasionally, not daily.
How to pack a drone for Indian domestic flights
Step 1: Discharge all batteries to 30–60% for safe air transport (DJI batteries auto-discharge if left idle for 5+ days).
Step 2: Pack each spare battery in a separate padded slot in the tech organiser. Cover terminals with tape as backup.
Step 3: Place the drone body with propellers folded in the padded compartment of the Pango or Camera Sling.
Step 4: Controller in a separate padded slot.
Step 5: Everything goes in cabin baggage. Nothing in checked luggage.
At security, you may be asked to show the drone and batteries separately. The tech organiser makes this easy - pull it out, show the batteries, put it back. Total security time: under 2 minutes.

FAQs
Can I take a DJI drone on Indian domestic flights? Yes. DGCA permits drones in cabin baggage. Lithium batteries must be in cabin (not checked). Register your drone on the DGCA DigitalSky platform before flying commercially. Recreational flight rules vary by zone.
What is the best bag for a DJI Mini 4 Pro? The Pro Camera Sling Bag at ₹3,499. The Mini 4 Pro with full kit fits in the padded main compartment with room for a 14-inch laptop.
Do I need a hard case for a drone? For cabin carry in a padded bag - no. The padded dividers in the Pango V2.0 or Camera Cube provide sufficient protection. A hard case is only needed for checked luggage (which is not recommended for lithium-battery devices).
